Level B1 Intermediate English Reading Practice: My Hometown
I grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, a big city in Canada. I don't live there now, but it will always be my hometown. Let me tell you some things about it!
First of all, Hamilton is called the steel city because it produces the most steel in Canada. If you drive across the Skyway Bridge, you can see a big steel factory. Almost everyone in Hamilton knows someone who works in this factory.
Hamilton also has a lot of nature. There are more than one hundred waterfalls! Most of the waterfalls are small or hidden, so most visitors don't see them. My favourite waterfall is Webster's Falls. I like it because you can walk close to it and take some nice pictures.
Hamilton is also good for biking. When I was a child, I often rode my bike to the store near my house because it had arcade games. I liked playing Street Fighter 2.
Today, Hamilton is a little different. It has more restaurants and more people. When I was a child, around 330,000 people lived there. Now, the population is around 800,000. Many people move to Hamilton because it's cheaper than Toronto, and there is less stress. So, if you like nature, good food, and friendly people, you can visit Hamilton!
